In My Father’s Arms was inspired by one of the first memories my mind was able to grasp and hold onto. I was sitting upon my father’s lap at my second birthday party surrounded by family. I remember my father grasping me tightly, and telling me to gesture the number 2, as my Aunt Josephine encouraged me to do the same while everyone sung happy birthday. As my father held me, I can unmistakably remember the warm scent of cocoa butter blended with the deep woodsy notes of his cologne. In this very moment I felt secure, protected, and shielded.
